Algae are among the fastest growing organisms using CO2 and excessive nutrients to build their biomass. Due to nutrient pollution or warming waters, algae sometimes grow uncontrollably, causing what is known as hazardous algal blooms (HABs).
These blooms have severe negative economic and social impacts on the coastal economies and ecosystems. It has been estimated that the annual cost of HABs in the European Union alone exceeds 730 million Euros.
We use the biomass produced in these HABs, removing CO2 and nutrient pollution from coastal waters, while safeguarding coastal ecological balance and sea-based economic activities.
Be it agricultural waste, forestry residues or byproducts of the food industry, our technology will work with it. Instead of being burned or buried, where it will generate methane, an even more powerful greenhouse gas, our system can safely and effectively sequester that carbon, effectively forever.
